Ceremony Pictures

The wedding was held at Greenhorn Creek Resort, a golf club in Angels Camp, CA. It is on Hwy 49 in the old California Gold country. Greenhorn Creek comes from when the old-time miners would tell the newbies to go pan at "Greenhorn Creek" because it had lots of gold intending to keep them out of the "good stuff." Imagine their surprise when eventually gold was found and the creek was a very productive site for several decades. Anyway, we chose Angels Camp because when driving down Hwy 49 to Yosemite we went by this postcard picture perfect country chapel. Turned out we had to be baptized as Greek Orthodox to be married in it, but we had several hours of fun interactions with the founding fathers, leading to the golf club and deciding we liked the open setting there.

We had hoped the wedding could be outside under an arbor, but, alas, the weather turned cloudy and was just too cold, so an hour before the start of the wedding we moved it in doors, literally on the other side of the wall in the restaurant. The late move meant the chairs just stayed outside unused and we moved the reception tables around a bit and had people sit around the tables, which worked just fine. The restaurant had windows on three sides overlooking the golf course and the guests faced the windows. The wedding party faced the audience and Dr. Taylor faced the audience or the wedding party in accordance with the subject matter she was presenting.. We had music over the PA system before and after the wedding but the processional was silent. Dave walked Sharlet up and no one "gave anyone away." For the order of the ceremony, please go to the documents page.

Sharlet's kids were our witness. Dustin is 18, an International Business major with an emphasis in Korean culture, attending La Sierra College. Dustin stood next to Sharlet. Jill was 16 at the time of the wedding (turned 17 a couple weeks later) and is a junior at Monterey Bay Academy. She is vice president of the Girl's Club, sings in the Oceanaires choir, plays percussion in the band, and is on the student senate. Jill stood next to David.

Dustin and Jill were the only special music, singing You are My Sunshine acappella, a song David sometimes sings to Sharlet. While David and Sharlet had slightly modified the words, it was to David's pleasant surprise that Dustin and Jill added two verses without telling him (see docs page).

Dr. Arlene Taylor, a long-time friend of Sharlet's, officiated. She is an expert on how the brain works and conducts seminars worldwide. David and Sharlet both credit her with giving them the breadth and depth of understanding of themselves and other people which was a key enabler to their relationship working. We were honored to have her participate.

Sharlet's custom black dress had a red lining behind the side slit up to "here" and the asymmetrical top was reflective of the engagement ring. Needless to say, it was a tailored fit. This gal wasn't going to be showing up in frilly stuff! The hat was made by a little company in New York. Sharlet saw a picture in a magazine and ran down the place that made it. The feathers are acid-etched Ostrich, a techinque almost unknown anymore. The hat really set the whole outfit off.

While this wasn't quite the usual wedding, it sure was "us".

Sharlet's engagement ring, custom designed by David and produced by Artisans Designs; an asymmetrical design of princess cut diamonds set in platinum
Having jewelry custom made can actually be considerably less expensive than buying the same thing already designed; worked out to a 40% discount from appraised value
Sharlet is using two plain platinum bands on each side of the engagement ring
David designed his own platinum wedding band; to get Sharlet's name inset (three times) the way he wanted, it had to be cast instead of engraved
